USF sweeps Upper Iowa, falls twice at Winona State
After splitting their NSIC-opening doubleheader at Southwest Minnesota State, the Cougars continued their road trip with twinbills at Upper Iowa and Winona State. Behind standout pitching performances from Kerrigan Hoshaw and Breanna Black, Sioux Falls swept Upper Iowa on Saturday. Hoshaw recorded her second straight complete game win with a 6-5 victory, while Black threw six scoreless innings, allowing just four hits, before giving way to Courtney Mathews who completed the 5-0 shutout win. Emma Schifferle connected on her first career homerun in the game one victory and Jasmine Ragusi hit her fourth this season in game two. Winona State proved to be too much for USF in their final swing of the road trip, defeating the Cougars 6-1 and 8-0 in the Sunday doubleheader.

Series history: Minnesota State leads 9-0
Since joining the NSIC for the 2013 season, Sioux Falls has faced Minnesota State nine times and come up empty each time. The Cougars have closed the gap recently after a few lopsided results in the first two years as regular opponents. The cougars are 0-2 at home in games against the Mavericks and 0-3 in games played at Sherman Park after MSU eliminated the Cougars with a 6-2 victory in the NSIC Tournament semifinals. Last season, USF suffered a 5-4 defeat in game one, taking it to extra innings. The Cougars dropped game two 8-2, ending their road trip to Mankato, Minn.
