Box Score SIOUX FALLS— In a back-and-forth, thrilling double overtime match, the University of Sioux Falls Soccer Team (4-7-2, 3-5-2 NSIC) battled to a double overtime tie, 1-1, with MinotState (6-4-2, 4-4-2 NSIC).
With the draw, USF remains in a tie for 10
th place with the University of Mary with a conference record of 3-5-2.
The USF offense continually put pressure on Minot's defense all match, especially in the second half and overtime, recording 19 total shots with 14 coming after the first half. The Cougars forced the opposing goalkeeper to make our crucial saves, while sophomore
Lindsey Power rifled a shot off of her own rebound passed the goalkeeper in the 56
th minute to tie the game up, 1-1.
Senior midfielder
Jackie Montes was a force on offense, totaling seven shots on the match with one being on goal. Junior
Lauren LaFavre added three shots with one on goal.
Erin O'Tool,
Chessa Novotny,
Aundria Vargas, and Power each recorded two shots throughout the contest.
Minot State controlled the first half and outshot the Cougars 8-3. They scored the first goal of the game in the 21
st minute off the foot of Sofia Lewis. USF placed one shot on goal in the first half, while junior goalkeeper
Brayden Paul recorded five of her seven saves in the first half.
The USF offense came alive in the second half while doubling the Beaver's shots, 12 shots to only six. The key offensive possession for USF was after Power had a shot blocked and after the ball bounded back to her, she deposited in the top part of the goal to tie the match at 1-1. Power scored her third goal of the season.
USF controlled the overtime periods while accumulating four shots. Montes had the opportunity to end the match and record a victory for USF in the 103
rd minute when she took a shot from just outside of the box that looked true but it hit the upper right post and bounded away.
With a 3-3-1 record over the last seven matches, USF will host the University of Mary (4-6-2. 3-5-2 NSIC) on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 1 p.m.
