Box Score SIOUX FALLS— Despite another solid defensive performance, the University of Sioux Falls Soccer Team (4-8-2, 3-6-2 NSIC) dropped a 1-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) decision to U-Mary on a cold, snowy Senior Day on Sunday (Oct. 14) afternoon. Due to the snow which fell overnight, the USF-U-Mary match was played an hour later.
With the loss, USF fell to 11
th place in the NSIC standings with a 3-6-2 record. Following the match, the USF Soccer Program, led by head coach
Brittany Domino, honored seniors
Chessa Novotny,
Jackie Montes,
Kori Fink,
Ellie Rieder and
Emma Trittin.
USF's defense held strong throughout the majority of the match as they held U-Mary to 16 total shots, six of which were on goal. Junior goalkeeper
Brayden Paul recorded five total saves on the contest, while allowing just one goal late in the half. In going 3-4-1 over the last eight games, USF, led by Paul in goal, has allowed six total goals.
Against U-Mary, the USF offense posted nine total shots with four on goal.
McKayla Philippi,
Aundria Vargas, and
Lauren LaFavre each tallied two shots and combined for all four of the shots on goal.
In the first half, the Marauders outshot USF, 10-3. USF had a scoring opportunity when Montes was tipped away just as it was headed into the goal. U-Mary scored the only goal of the game in the 41
st minute when Megan Lowery's shot was placed on the far right side.
In the second half, the USF offense had three chances to tie the game but was unable to put a shot in the net. LaFavre had two close calls at goals, but the U-Mary goalkeeper was able to tip both shots away.
USF will look to bounce back after the loss as they travel to St.Cloud State on Friday, Oct. 19 for a 1 p.m. match.
