USF Soccer suffers 1-0 loss to Minnesota Duluth on Sunday

Box Score DULUTH—Another strong defensive performance wasn't enough as the University of Sioux Falls Soccer Team (4-10-2, 3-8-2 NSIC) lost to Minnesota Duluth (7-8-1, 6-6-1 NSIC), 1-0,  Sunday afternoon.

With the loss, USF now sits in 12th place in the NSIC standings at 3-8-2. USF is 0-4-2 over the past six matches since a 1-0 win over Minnesota Crookston. But, USF has allowed just five total goals as the team's defense has been solid.

Junior goalkeeper Brayden Paul posted another strong outing, making seven saves on UMD's eight shots on goal.

Junior forward Lauren LaFavre led the USF offense with four total shots, two of which were on goal. LaFavre has a team high, 37 shots this season, with 17 shots on goal. Aundria Vargas and Lily McKown each recorded a pair of shots.

The USF offense produced six total shots with two being on goal in the first half of the contest. Vargas started off the game with a shot in the fifth minute that was stopped by the  UMD goalkeeper. The USF defense gave UMD little opportunity on the offensive end, only allowing nine total shots with three challenging Paul. The Cougars maintained this defensive control and went into halftime tied with UMD, 0-0.

UMD began pressing the USF defense a little harder to begin the second half, until the ball snuck by Paul in the 54th minute from the foot of Nan Glinsek for her fourth goal of the season to put the Bulldogs ahead, 1-0.

Senior forward Chessa Novotny had an opportunity to even the game up in the 56th minute with a header off of a corner kick by Lindsey Power, but the UMD goalkeeper stopped the attempt just before it could reach the goal. The USF offense produced 12 total shots in the contest, but couldn't produce a goal.

USF will look to get back on track as they return home on Friday, Oct. 26 to face Upper Iowa at 1 p.m.
