Box Score SIOUX FALLS— With four players registering double digit totals in kills, the University of Sioux Falls Volleyball Team (12-6, 7-3 NSIC) extended their winning streak to four matches with a 3-1 decision (25-23, 25-19, 22-25, 25-20) over St. Cloud State (10-6, 6-4 NSIC) at the Stewart Center.

The victory enabled USF to take control of fifth place in the NSIC with a 7-3 lead mark as the Huskies dropped to 6-4. Over the last four matches, USF has won 12-of-15 sets. In addition, USF has won six of the past seven matches to improve to 12-6 on the season.

In this showdown for fifth place in one of the nation's top leagues, the Cougars controlled action as they recorded a hitting percentage of .319 with 61 kills on 144 attempts. Seniors Lexi Scott,
Bria Barfnecht and
Makenna Rockeman along with sophomore Averey Yaksch registered double digit totals in kills.

Scott led USF with 16 kills and a .560 hitting percentage and also recorded six total blocks. Barfnecht recorded her seventh double double of the season and her third in the past four matches. She registered 12 kills (20 attacks), had a .500 hitting percentage and led the team with 17 digs. Yaksich recorded 13 kills while Rockeman added 11 kills.

Sophomore setter
Krista Goerger, who accumulated 49 assists during the four sets, played a big role in USF hitting over .300 for the seventh time this season and the third time in four matches. Â

The Cougars, which hit .385 in the first set, jumped to an early 7-4 lead as Scott registered a pair of kills. The two teams battled back and forth with a rally by USF creating a tie at 23. Â Then Barfnecht recorded an important kill and Yaksich finished the set off with an ace to earn the victory. Â

In the second set, the Cougars posted an impressive .464 team hitting percentage to create a 2-0 lead in the match. USF jumped to a 5-0 lead which caused the SCSU bench to call a timeout. But the momentum stayed on the USF side as they pushed the lead to 17-10 as Yaksich had a pair of kills. USF won four of the last five points to take a 25-19 victory.

Despite hitting .316, Cougars struggled to find momentum in the third set, and found themselves down 13-10 midway through the set. Rockeman recorded a kill and sparked the team to a four-point run, but the Cougars would lose three of the last four points to fall in the third set, 22-25.

The fourth set was a set of runs for the Cougars, who posted a four-point run and a six-point run to build an 11-7 lead over the Huskies. USF took off on another four -point run to take a 15-9 lead. Scott secured the Cougar victory with a kill to win the set, 25-20. Â

USF will host No. 5 Minnesota Duluth (15-4, 8-2 NSIC) on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. at the Stewart Center.
