Box Score SIOUX FALLS— Behind a dominating offensive performance, the University of Sioux Falls Volleyball Team (7-5, 2-2 NSIC) swept Upper Iowa Friday night in the first of two weekend home matches, 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-18).
Senior
Makenna Rockeman led the Cougar offense with 14 kills on 29 attempts for a hitting percentage of .414. Sophomore
Averey Yaksich added 13 kills on 33 attempts for a .364 hitting percentage. Yaksich also was one dig away from a double double as she had nine digs throughout the match. Senior
Lexi Scott, who was fourth in the NSIC in hitting percentage (.422) going into the match, had 8 kills on 17 attempts for a match hitting percentage of .412. This brought her season hitting percentage to .421 where she moved up a spot to third in the conference. In addition, sophomore
Krista Goerger had her third double double of the season with 45 assists and 13 digs.
As a team, the Cougars totaled 52 kills on 123 attempts for a hitting percentage of .358. USF had 51 assists throughout the three sets that were played.
In set one, the Cougars got off to a fast 6-2 start behind a pair of kills from Rockeman. The Peacocks would battle back to take a 12-11 advantage, but the USF offense would rally late in the set to take four straight points to go up 19-15. The Cougars didn't look back and won five of the last seven points to take the first set, 25-20. USF posted a .417 hitting percentage in the set.
The second set started off with USF gaining a 4-3 advantage early in part due to kills by Yaksich and Rockeman. The set then broke open for the Cougars after they took six unanswered points from the Peacocks to take an 11-5 lead. Upper Iowa tried to make a comeback, but Rockeman shut down any hopes the Peacocks had by recording three kills late in the set.
Lexi Scott finished the set with a kill that ended a dominating performance, 25-16. USF finished the second set with a .368 hitting percentage.
Upper Iowa began the third set out strong mounting an 8-6 lead, but USF would storm back with a seven point swing behind three kills from Senior
Bria Barfnecht to take a 17-12 advantage. The Cougars would not look back and sealed the match with a kill by Rockeman. USF took the third set 25-18 which capped off a quality team victory. During the third set, the Cougars totaled a .306 hitting percentage.
USF will next host Winona State (4-8, 1-3 NSIC) on Saturday, Sept. 15 for a 2 p.m. start time.
