USF Volleyball falls to No. 2 Concordia-St.Paul, 3-0

Box Score ST. PAUL — Facing the No. 2 team in the nation, the University of Sioux Falls Volleyball Team (8-6, 3-3 NSIC) struggled on offense and fell to Concordia-St. Paul (12-2, 6-0 NSIC), 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-14) in straight sets on Friday night in NSIC play. The loss to CSP snapped a two-match winning streak by USF, which has only lost to ranked opponents this season.

USF, who came into Friday's match second in the conference with a .283 team hitting percentage, was held to a .147 hitting percentage. Senior Bria Barfnecht led the Cougars with six kills during the contest, and senior Makenna Rockeman finished the match with five kills of her own. Barfnecht hit for an efficient .417 throughout the match after posting six kills on 12 attacks with one attack error.

In the first set, the Cougars were down early 11-7, but rallied back to tie the set up at 11-11. CSP would then go on to win six of the next seven points to regain the lead at 17-12. CSP would hold the lead and win four of the last five set points to take the first set 25-18. The second and third sets were controlled by Concordia throughout with USF failing to gain a lead other than going up 3-1 in the third set. The Cougars lost the second set, 25-17 and the third set, 25-14.

The Cougars will try to bounce back in a quick turnaround as they travel to Mankato, Minn., to face Minnesota State (10-4, 3-3 NSIC) on Saturday, Sept. 22 for a 2 pm match.
