Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

USF Soccer loses first conference game of the season to Southwest Minnesota State 4-1.

SIOUX FALLS—The University of Sioux Falls Soccer Team (1-2, 0-1 NSIC) was turned away by Southwest Minnesota State (1-2, 1-0 NSIC) 4-1 to open up their Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference schedule Friday evening at the USF Sports Complex.

USF totaled 20 shots during the contest, one of which was put in the net by freshman Aundria Vargas. This goal was the first of Vargas' career and tied the game up 1-1 in the first half after the Mustangs took an early one goal lead. Junior Lauren LaFavre gained the assist on the lone goal, while adding three shots on goal of her own.

SMSU took control with three unanswered goals in the second half over a period of 15 minutes and shut the Cougars out with stifling defense.

The SMSU goal keeper was continually stressed by the Cougar's offense, but their efforts turned out to be without reward. The Mustang's junior goal keeper, Jessica Craigmile, made 12 saves on 13 attempts resulting in a .923 save percentage.

The Cougars will look to bounce back from this loss as they take on Missouri Western State on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 1 p.m. at the USF Sports Complex to wrap up their nonconference schedule.
