ST. PAUL, Minn.- The University of Sioux Falls volleyball team went to St. Paul, Minn., for a competitive match against the No. 7 Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears. A Friday evening battle is exactly what both teams were in store for in a four set victory (23-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-14) for the Golden Bears.
Senior Abby Feyereisen led the way for hitting percentage with .321 (10K-1E-28TA). Senior KaSandra Springer had a team-leading 13 kills, along with 18 digs to round out her double-double performance. Senior Allie Maloney also recorded 18 digs, a team-high for the Cougars. Krista Goerger recorded 40 assists and two service aces. As a team, the Cougars were outhit .200-to-.118 by the Golden Bears.
The Cougars have a quick turnaround as they play in-city rival Augustana at the Stewart Center on Tuesday for Faculty Appreciation Night.
In the first set against CSP, the Cougars fell behind 10-6 before going on a set-defining 9-2 run to go ahead 15-12 and fought their way to a 25-23 set one win.
With a kill from Feyereisen, the Cougars were able to take an 8-7 lead over CSP, but it was short-lived after CSP went on an 11-6 run that gave CSP a sizable 18-13 lead that CSP rode to an eventual set two win to tie the match 1-1 into intermission.
CSP had another offensive showing in the early goings of the third set, jumping ahead to a 6-2 lead that built to a 19-13 lead. The Cougars were able to get momentum, getting it to a one-point, 23-22 CSP lead. The Golden Bears were able to stave off the run from the Cougars, taking two of the last three rallies to get ahead of the Cougars 2-1 in the match.
A 6-1 run started the fourth set in favor of CSP. A kill by freshman Hayley Fox made it a 9-4 lead for CSP, but CSP went on an 11-2 run that all but sealed the set for the Golden Bears who took the set 25-14 and the match 3-1.
