SIOUX FALLS- The University of Sioux Falls Soccer squad had a very tough battle with the U-Mary Marauders on Sunday. Unfortunately for the Cougars, the Marauders were able to get the 1-0 tilt in the highly contested Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match. The Cougars, now move to 2-10-1, 2-7-1 on the season.
Senior Becca Schmitz and junior Kassidy Graber took the only shots of the match for the Cougars. Mary recorded 24 shots, 15 shots on goal, but were nearly shutout by the Cougar defense and senior Brayden Paul, who recorded 14 saves.
The first half saw the Marauders outshoot the Cougars 9-to-1, but finished with a scoreless tie into halftime.
The Marauders came out swinging in the second half, taking five shots in the first eight minutes, including the sole goal of that match on the fourth shot in the 51st minute.
The Cougars will be back in action next weekend when they host St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth on Friday and Sunday, respectively. Kickoff for those games are set for 6 p.m. on Friday and noon on Sunday.
