No. 19 USF Volleyball bested by Winona State

Box Score SIOUX FALLS --  The No. 19 ranked University of Sioux Falls Volleyball Team, which had 14 kills from senior Abby Feyereisen, fell to Winona State, 3-0 (26-28, 18-25, 26-28) on Friday at the Stewart Center.

Leading the Cougars offensively was senior Abby Feyereisen with a .571 hitting percentage (14K-2E-21TA). Senior KaSandraSpringer led the team with 16 digs. Junior Krista Goerger made 38 assists, while recording four kills herself.

As a team, USF recorded a .219 hitting percentage (51K-23E-128TA).

The Cougars will look to end their two-game skid when Upper Iowa comes to town on Saturday. That match will have a first serve of 4 p.m.

The first set was a back-and-forth affair, with neither team being able to pull away from one another until the Cougars went on a 7-1 run to get a bet of breathing room on a 19-15 lead. Thee Warriors were able to return the favor, going on their own run to tie the game 21-21. A kill by Feyereisengot the game tied 26-26, but the Warriors were able to rattle off the final two rallies of the set.

In set two, the Warriors were able to keep the pace in their favor, but a ball handling error midway through the set by the Warriors made it a 17-15 deficit for the Cougars. A 7-2 run by the Warriors set WSU up with set point with seven rallies to work with, but a kill by Madison Riznertwo rallies later gave the Warriors the 25-18 set two win and subsequent 2-0 match lead.

The Warriors were able to control the pace, leading for most of the set all the way to a 23-19 lead and two rallies away from the match victory. The Cougars were able to recoup and battle back with a 4-0 run to tie the set 23-23. Twice the Cougars were able to get to set point on kills by freshman Nicole Jacobson, but the Warriors were able to rattle off three points to take the third set and win the match in straight sets.
