Springer and Feyereisen earn all league honors for first team

BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Seniors Abby Feyereisen and KaSandra Springer have been named to the All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Volleyball Team, according to an announcement today by the league office. For third straight year, the Cougars have had two or more student-athletes named to the All-NSIC squad.

Feyereisen, a middle blocker, and Springer, an outside hitter, both earned spots on the all-league team for the first time. With two home matches to go, including Senior Night on Friday at Minot State at the Stewart Center, the two seniors have led USF to a 15-11 record with a 7-11 conference mark. Earlier this year, Feyereisen and Springer helped lead USF to its first-ever top-25 ranking and reached as high as 19th in the AVCA poll.

An elementary education major from Minneapolis, Minn., Feyereisen is a two-time Academic All-NSIC selection, who earned her first selection to the all-league team during her best season at USF. In 87 sets and 26 matches, Feyereisen recorded 229 kills or 2.63 per set as she hit .347 on the season which ranked seventh in the NSIC. She added 14 assists, 12 service aces, 51 digs, 55 total blocks including 11 solo blocks.

In her career, she played in 199 sets in 69 matches with 559 career kills, which ranks eighth all-time at USF. She also had 248 total blocks, which ranks fifth all-time at USF. Eight times she had three or more blocks this season  with a high of seven vs Chadron State. She also had nine double digit kills this season and 57 in her career. Against Upper Iowa on Oct. 5, 2019, she set a career best with 20 kills on 35 attacks for a .486 hitting percentage. She was earlier named co-MVP of the Pioneer Invitational which USF won. Feyereisen set a new match record with a 750 hitting percentage on September 21 of this season. She leads the Cougar team in attacking efficiency with a hitting clip of 347. In addition, she has recorded six of the top ten attacking efficiencies for the Cougars this season and three of the top 10 all-time attacking efficiencies for the program in her career.

Springer, a senior from Altoona, Wisc., has had an outstanding season for the Cougars. Springer, who ranks eighth in the NSIC in kills per set at 3.86, has accumulated a team-high 317 kills on the year. If her kills per set total holds through the final two matches, she will set a season school record. A two-time Academic All-NSIC performer, Springer is a biology major at USF.

This season, she had her best as a USF player with the 317 kills (tied for sixth all-time at USF) on 877 attacks for a .218 hitting percentage. She led USF with 379 points with a career-high 27.5 points in a win over Augustana on Oct. 15. In that match, she totaled a career-high 25 kills on 47 attacks for a .481 hitting percentage while recording a double double with 13 digs. The performance by Springer against city rival Augustana was one of 12 doubles doubles for the senior standout this season. Eighteen times she had double digit kills and twice surpassed 20 kills in a match. This season, Springer led the NSIC in aces with 42 or 0.53 per match, which is a USF program record. She has totaled 412 kills (10th all-time at USF) on 1207 attacks in her career with 60 blocks in 167 sets and 63 matches.
