SIOUX FALLS— The University of Sioux Falls Volleyball team had it's way on Ron Eiesland Court at the Stewart Center on Saturday, finishing the season with a strong, straight set victory (25-12, 25-19, 25-19) over the Mary Marauders.
The Numbers-
The Cougars had a stellar performance, with seniors KaSandra Springer and Abby Feyereisen pacing the way on offense with 15 and 14 kills, respectively. Springer had yet another double-double on the weekend with 12 kills. Finishing out the strong performances by the Cougars was Allie Maloney who had a team-high 21 digs on the day.
Goerger had a huge role in the offense as well with 37 assists.
As a team, the Cougars recorded nine blocks and also had a great day at the service line with six aces. The Cougars, collectively, had a hitting percentage of .308, while the defense held Mary to a .043 hitting percentage.
Match Notes-
The Cougars went into the first set in full-throttle, starting the set on an 8-1 run and never looking back. Throughout the set, the Marauders were only capable of stringing together successful rallies of two, three times in the set.
Mary kept up with the Cougars in set two, all the way to a one-point, 15-14 Cougar lead. After that one-point differential, the Cougars got into a flow by taking seven of the next nine rallies to jump ahead 22-16 and eventually go into the intermission with a 2-0 match lead.
After a Cougar service error, the Marauders got to within one of USF (11-10), but that was for naught. The Cougars would start to run away with the set, going on an 11-4 run to a 22-14 Cougar lead. The only 4-0 run of the day for the Marauders came on match point for the Cougars, but it was freshman Nicole Jacobson who ended the run with a kill to win the set and the match.
With the win, the Cougars finish 17-11 overall, and 9-11 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference matches. The Cougars finished 11th in conference, a conference that currently has six of the 10 spots in the NCAA Central Regional rankings as of Nov. 10.
