USF Volleyball falls to No. 12 Wayne State on Saturday

WAYNE, Neb. -- The University of Sioux Falls Volleyball battled No. 12 Wayne State on the road Saturday (Nov. 2) before falling by a 3-0 (21-25, 18-25, 13-25) decision in NSIC action at Rice Auditorium.

The Numbers -
Seniors KaSandra Springer and Abby Feyereisen led the Cougars on the attack, with Springer recording 10 kills and Feyereisen registered nine more. Feyereisen lead the team in hitting percentage (minimum 20 attacks) with a .381 hitting percentage. Junior Krista Goerger recorded 29 assists and the only service ace for the Cougars. Goerger finished with a double-double after collecting 11 digs.

Senior Allie Maloney set the pace in digs, recording 18 digs. Freshman Nicole Jacobson was the other Cougar to hit double-digits in digs with 11.

Springer and redshirt sophomore Kenzie Byers both recorded a team-high four block assists, along with three from Feyereisen, two from Goerger, and another from freshman Hayley Fox.

Match summary -
USF took the fight to WSC in the opening set, going toe-to-toe all the way to a 17-16 Cougar lead. At this point, WSC went on a 6-1 run that set the pace for the remainder of the set for the WSC.

The pace of set two mimicked that of the first set, with neither team capable of gaining sizable ground all the way to a 15-13 lead for USF. The Wildcats again went on a set-defining run, taking nine of the next 10 rallies to go ahead of USF 22-16.

The first nine rallies were traded between the teams, heading to a 5-4 Wildcat lead. WSC heated up after the Cougars got it to within one, rattling off a 12-4 run to get a sizeable 17-8 lead that propelled WSC to the 25-13 set three victory and the 3-0 match victory.

What's next -
The Cougars have another midweek battle slated with Augustana. USF will head to the Elmen Center on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. match against their inner-city rivals.
