USF Women's BB vs Augustana shot

Women's Basketball Andy Chase

Women's Basketball highest ranking in program DII history in recent WBCA Top 25 Poll

LILBURN, Ga.— The University of Sioux Falls Women's Basketball team reached new heights on Tuesday, earning their highest ever ranking of No. 19 in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Top 25 Poll released Tuesday.

The Cougars earned a spot in the Top 25 of the WBCA Poll for only the second time (Feb. 9, 2016) since joining NCAA Division II, as well as their highest ranking, after going 2-0 this past week in two strong showings. First was a battle with a then regionally-ranked Emporia State at the Stewart Center, where the Cougars took the contest 77-68. They followed the battle with a 100-77 blowout of Northern State Intercollegiate Conference-foe Southwest Minnesota State, again at the Stewart Center.

The Cougars will have a trio of opportunities to improve on their record and move up when they play their first games away from the Stewart Center. In Honolulu, Hawai'i, the Cougars will face Hawai'i Hilo, Hawai'i Pacific, and Chaminade. Of the three, Hawai'i Pacific is in the same position USF was last week in that the Sharks are one of the first teams out of the Top 25 and facing a team ahead of them in the standings.

Also coming out earlier this week were the D2SIDA regional and national polls. The Cougars have made moves in those, with the Cougars reaching the D2SIDA poll for the first time, sitting at the No. 21 spot in the poll released Tuesday. In the regional poll, NSIC USF moved up two spots from fifth to third, behind only Fort Hays State and NSIC North favorite MSU Moorhead.
