No. 8/14 USF Swimming earns big win over DI Nebraska-Omaha on Saturday

SIOUX FALLS— The No. 8/14 University of Sioux Falls Swimming squad got a quality win on Saturday, taking down NCAA Division I Nebraska-Omaha at the Midco Aquatic Center 174-114.

In the 14 events that the Cougars participated in, a Cougar emerged first in 12 of those events. In those 14 events, the Cougars outscored the Mavericks 174-88, with the final 26 points for the Mavericks coming from two diving events that USF did not participate in.

"What a great way to cap off our 1st semester dual meet season," Swimming Head Coach Chris Hemstra said. "The University of Nebraska Omaha is always a tough meet, I love the chance to test ourselves with such great competition. Our young ladies came ready to race, I am so proud that we can go into mid-season with such great momentum. Our 7th win this season to remain undefeated and a program 1st dual meet win against a Division I program.  We are excited for our mid-season invite in two weeks to see what we can do!"

Event 1: 400 Yard Medley Relay-
The Cougars recorded 13 points in the 400 Yard Medley Relay after claiming first and third in the event. In first place with a time of 3:54.23, the only sub-four minute mark of the dual, was the squad of Elizabeth Spaans, Chantal Kasch, Ella Johnson, and Jenna Krahn.

Julia Zanto, Abigail Ford, Valerie Childs, and Leah Eagleton claimed third with a time of 4:04.84.

Event 2: 1000 Yard Freestyle-
Nina Groene, Giulia Marcon, and Evelyn VanDeMark shined for USF in this event, garnering first, second, and fourth respectively.

Event 3: 200 Yard Freestyle-
Johnson and Eagleton had the top two marks in the 200 Yard Freestyle, finishing with times of 1:55.25 and 1:57.40, respectively, to earn the Cougars 13 more points.

Event 4: 100 Yard Backstroke-
The Cougars continued their hot streak, again placing three of the top four times, with Spaans recording the first place time of 57.84.

Event 5: 100 Yard Breaststroke-
Kasch cashed in on her 100 Yard Breaststroke, earning yet another first place spot for the Cougars with a time of 1:05.00.

Event 6: 200 Yard Butterfly-
Johson and Makenzy Kennedy held their own, earning first and second with times of 2:06.63 and 2:07.89, respectively.

Event 7: 50 Yard Freestyle-
Krahn and Tori Bailey were able to clinch first and second in the event to give the Cougars 14 more points on the day.

Event 8: 1 Meter Diving-
The Mavericks recorded 13 points from both divers, as the Cougars did not take part in the event.

Events 9-16-
The Cougars pounced on their opportunities after the 1 Meter Diving event, winning five more events, with one of the events being the 5 Meter Dive, which USF does not sponsor.

What's Next-
The Cougars will be in action again when they take part in the Sioux Falls Invite hosted by Augustana from Nov. 21 to Nov. 23.
