ORLANDO, FLA. – The University of Sioux Falls Women's Tennis Team (4-6) had a No. 1 singles win by
Chloe Jefferies but dropped a 6-1 decision to the University of Texas-Tyler (3-5) on Tuesday evening.
The Cougars dropped five of the six singles matches and all three doubles contests but several were close calls.
Jefferies won her third straight match and moved to 5-3 on the season with a win in a tiebreaker. She defeated Ana Claire Gerletti, 6-2, 2-6, 10-8 at No. 1 singles. USF's
Joelle Thorfinnson lost at No. 5 in a tiebreaker as she took the opening set at 6-4 before falling 7-5 in set two and 10-5 in the tie-breaker. In doubles, USF's No. 1 squad of
Lexi Miller and
Megan Quandt lost 7-5. And, the No. 2 doubles squad of
Emily Applegate and
Rachel Klatt also lost a tough 7-5 decision.
"We played really well but lost a number of key points late in the games. We battled all day and that means a lot," said USF Head Coach
Kevin Grebin. "I was proud of our effort. We will keep working on our games as the week moves on," he said.
The Cougars will face the University of Charleston on Wednesday, March 13 in Orlando, Fla.
