WARRENSBURG, MO. – Led by the play of
Sydney Hubbard,
Kyleigh Moran and
Lexi Hanson, the University of Sioux Falls Women's Golf Team made a substantial improvement in the final round and finished 11
th at the Jennies Invitational at the Mules National Golf Course.
On the par 71, 5,800-yard course, the Cougars finished 11
th with a two-round total of 666 (339-327). After opening with a 339 on day one, the Cougars improved their round by 12 shots and finished with a 327. Everyone on the USF team improved or tied their performance from day one. Central Missouri won the tournament with a two-round total of 614 (313-301) and Missouri Western State, led by individual medalist Shi Quing Ong with a 144 (75-69), finished second at 629 (321-308).
Hubbard, Moran and Hanson all finished tied for 31
st with two round totals of 166. Hubbard highlighted the play for USF with a "hole in one" on hole No. 2 (174-yards). It was the first hole in one by a USF player this year. A sophomore from Onalaska, Wis., Hubbard finished with 15 pars and shot a 24-over par 166 with rounds of 84 and 82.
"I am very proud of the way the women's team handled themselves on the course today," said USF Assistant Coach
Tavia Rutherford. "They were able to bounce back from yesterday's round and make up some ground on the rest of the field. It was also a great moment when
Sydney Hubbard made a home in one on the 164-yard par three. I am very excited to see this team continue to make strides in their golf games as the season progresses," Rutherford said.
After opening with 85 on day one, sophomore
Kyleigh Moran of Vermillion, S.D., improved her score by four shots and came home in 81 for a two-round total of 166 and a tie for 31
st. The 81 by Moran was the second best round of her career. On Tuesday, she had eight pars and a birdie on No. 13 as she finished with 14 pars in the tournament.
Junior
Lexi Hanson of Chanhassen, Minn., had a six-shot improvement from day one to the final round. She finished at 24-over par 166 after following her 86 on day one with a round of 80 today. With her 80 she had the top round by a USF player at the tournament as she had 13 parts and a birdie on No. 11 today. In total she finished with 20 pars, which ranked ninth among individuals at the tourney.
Alex Nutter, a sophomore from Houston, Minn., shot back-to-back rounds of 84 as she finished tied for 37
th with a 26-over par total of 168. Nutter had 14 pars and birdied No. 14 on day one.
Sophomore
Lexi Jonas of Hudson, Wis., finished tied for 54
th with a 31 over par total of 173. After carding a round of 88 on Monday, she improved her total by three shots and registered a second day round of 85. She finished with 13 pars.
Taylor Sudenga, a junior from Sioux Falls, S.D., had a major improvement from round one. Sudenga finished in 59
th place with a 34 over par 176. She followed her day one round of 92 with an 84. She finished with 12 parts and had a birdie on No. 6 on day two.
