Box Score 2 DENTON, TEX. - The University of Sioux Falls volleyball team continued their historic winning streak, defeating the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds and Midwestern State (Tex.) Mustangs Friday at Kitty Magee Arena in Denton, Tex.
Since the start of the season, the Cougars have started 6-0, the first time in program history that this feat has been achieved. Along with their impressive 6-0 start to the season, the Cougars have not lost a set to-date, going a perfect 18-0 through the six matches. This is the best stretch of set wins in program history.
The Cougars had a morning match against the Greyhounds, handling the first set 25-10, before being pushed to the limit in the final two sets, beating the Greyhounds 25-22 and 27-25. In the first set, the Cougars rattled off a 10-0 run midway through to take a demanding 23-8Â lead.
In the second match, the Cougars were paced by the Mustangs, but were able to keep the Mustangs at bay, taking the match 25-16, 25-15, 25-17. The first set was back and forth to a 12-11 Mustang lead, but the Cougar finished strong on a 14-4 run.
Set two for the Cougars was another strong start, beginning the set on a 7-2 run. Late in the set, the Cougars went on another run, scoring on nine straight rallies to a 24-11 lead.
Another start in a set was in the books for the Cougars, getting to a fast 7-1 start. A 6-0 run at the end of the match sealed the straight set victory for the Cougars.
The Cougars will be back in action Saturday when they face off against the Harding (Mo.) Lady Bisons, then finishing their stay in Texas by facing the host Texas Woman's University Pioneers. The matches are slated for 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. respectively.
