Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Second half proves too much for USF Soccer in Missouri

MARYVILLE, MO. - Despite falling 4-0 to Northwest Missouri State on Friday, the University of Sioux Falls soccer squad had many positives come from Bearcat Pitch.

The Cougars will return to the pitch on Sunday when they play Missouri Western State in St. Joseph, Mo., at 1 p.m.

"I think we had some freshmen step up and perform well for us offensively today. [Freshmen] Grace Held and Alexis Naujokaitis were both dangerous today, said Head Coach Brittany Domino. "We had some moments but didn't capitalize on them in the attack. We asked a lot of of this group of girls today. We have had a lot of injuries this season and we started a backline that included two freshman center backs. They did a really good job. We didn't get broken down much in the run of play. We gave up the first three goals on set pieces which is something that is easily corrected. Today was our first taste of real adversity within a game and we will look at the film and see what changes we can make to learn from today."

The Cougars and Bearcats battled in the first half, with the Bearcats outshooting the Cougars 10-to-3.

In the second half, the Bearcats applied the pressure, scoring their first goal in the 51st minute.

The Bearcats' Alex Mausbach and Kaitlyn Case added to the goal column, scoring in the 74th and 78th minute, respectfully. Case added a second goal on the night for herself in the 85th minute to sal the victory.

In total, the Cougars were outshot 26-to-7. All seven shots for USF were taken by different Cougars.
