SIOUX FALLS - The University of Sioux Falls volleyball team has moved into the top 20 of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II Coaches Poll for the first time in program history, receiving 316 points to earn the Cougars 19th place in the Week 3 poll released by the AVCA on Monday.
The Cougars earned their uptick in national recognition after a pair of road sweeps against the Minot State Beavers and Mary Marauders this past weekend, beating the Beavers 25-19, 25-20, 25-9, then going to Bismarck, N.D., to claim a 25-16, 25-21, 25-19 victory over the Marauders. The Cougars are also one of only 11 Division II teams that remained undefeated through the weekend.
Leading the Cougars in both matches was senior middle blocker Abby Feyereisen, who tied a school record for best hitting percentage in a single match, a record that was broken last year by former teammate Bria Barfnecht, finishing with a stellar .750 hitting percentage against Mary. On the weekend, Feyereisen finished with a .718 hitting percentage (29K-1E-39TA) and was named one of the top offensive performers of the week in the NSIC.
Senior outside hitter KaSandra Springer and junior setter Krista Goerger also had great performances this past weekend. Goerger was named one of the top setters of the week in the NSIC after recording 78 assists (13 assists/set), including 43 assists against Mary, whilst helping the team to a .377 hitting percentage in six sets. Springer finished with a hitting percentage of .447 (24K-3E-47TA) in the two matches, with 12 digs, two service aces, and a solo block to boost.
