SIOUX FALLS – With a 3-0 victory over MSU Moorhead Friday at the Stewart Center, the No. 19 University of Sioux Falls Women's Volleyball Team moved to 11-0 overall and 3-0 in the NSIC before a strong contingent of supporters.
The Cougars, which will face No. 8 Northern State at 2 p.m., on Saturday, captured sets, 25-20, 25-20 and 25-18 in successfully opening their home schedule at the SC. USF is 11-0 for the first time in school history.
USF was led by senior
KaSandra Springer, who had eight kills (.217 hitting percentage on 23 attacks) and seven digs. Junior
Krista Goerger had a double double with 28 assists and 10 digs. Senior middle blocker
Abby Feyereisen hit .357 with six kills on 14 attacks and added three digs and 1.5 blocks. Freshman
Brooklynne Albrecht hit .455 with five kills on 11 attacks, had three service aces and two total blocks.
The Cougars opened the match by jumping to a big lead (17-11) after a kill by Springer and cruised to a 25-20 win. USF hit .194 with nine kills on 31 attacks. In that opening set, MSUM had 11 kills on 37 attacks but hit .108.
In the second set, USF broke from a 7-7 tie with four straight points which included a service ace from
TiaRose Nagami. USF built an 18-11 lead after
Hayley Fox and
Abby Feyereisen connected on kills. From there, USF closed with a 25-20 win as they had 12 kills on 38 attacks and hit .184 as a team. MSUM recorded nine kills on 35 attacks and a .143 hitting percentage..
After trailing 10-8, USF reeled off a run of 9-3 to take a 17-11 advantage on
Allie Maloney's service ace. USF closed the match with its best hitting performance in a set. On 22 attacks, USF had 12 kills and just four errors for a .364 hitting percentage.
For the match, USF was at .231 with 33 kills on 91 attacks and 12 errors. MSUM finished with 29 kills on 95 attacks with 17 errors and a .126 attack percentage.
