ABERDEEN, S.D.- After capturing their first win of the season, the University of Sioux Falls soccer squad looked to turn it into a streak against Northern State. The result of the match was a 2-0 tilt in favor of the Wolves on Sunday.
Leading the Cougars offensively were juniors Olivia Valdez and Lindsey Power, who both took two shots. Freshman Alexis Wemhoff went all 90 minutes in the net, saving three shots.
The Cougars (1-5-1, 1-2-1 NSIC) were able to keep up with Wolves in the early goings, trading a shot between the two teams. The Wolves were able to get their offense heated up, scoring a goal in the 25th minute off a corner shot and header. The Wolves were able to strike a second time in the 26th minute, scoring another goal to go ahead of the Cougars 2-0.
In the first half, the Cougars were outshot by the Wolves 7-to-2.
The second half saw the Cougars fight back to outshoot the Wolves 7-to-3, but were unable to capitalize on their opportunities.
Next for the Cougars is a weekend of hosting Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston next Friday and Sunday, respectively.
