FAYETTE, Iowa- The No. 12 University of Sioux Falls Women's Basketball team had a strong second half (37-17) that propelled the Cougars to the 72-51 victory over Upper Iowa at the Dorman Gymnasium on Saturday. The win, which included a historic night for senior
Kaely Hummel, puts the Cougars at 23-4 on the season, and 16-4 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) action.

The Cougars, who clinched the NSIC South on Feb. 14, sit second overall in the NSIC. USF has matched its win total of 23 a year ago.

Stop… Hummel Time-
The senior from Cherokee, Iowa, sealed her spot in the Sioux Falls Women's Basketball history books in the first quarter, making two quick threes to tie and break the record for three-pointers (Laura Johnson, 2010-14, 259) made for a Cougar in a career. The former record holder Laura Johnson was in attendance to watch Hummel set the all-time career mark. Hummel, who had 19 points for her 89th career double-digit scoring game, finished the day 5-for-10 from beyond the arc. She now sits at 263 career threes.Â

Mariah Szymanski also had a great game, scoring 19 points along with Hummel, going 7-for-16 from the field. Both Hummel and Szymanski recorded six rebounds apiece.

In terms of overall stats,
Augusta Thramer had the most complete performance, being the third and final Cougar to score in double-digits (14), as well as a team-leading six assists, three steals (which tied Upper Iowa's team total), and two blocks.
Jacey Huinker finished with a team-high seven rebounds.

- Upper Iowa started the quarter on a 5-0 run before
Augusta Thramer hit a three.
- Hummel made a three to give the Cougars a one-point lead, then followed that up with a steal and trey 14 seconds later to break the school record for 3-pointers.
- The Cougars finished the first quarter on an 8-0 run.

- After
Jessie Geer hit a layup to start the second quarter, the Peacocks went on a 23-9 run to take a 34-32 lead over the Cougars.
- Szymanski brought the momentum back onto the Cougars' side with a layup and and-one opportunity, giving USF the 35-34 lead heading into halftime.

- The Cougars outscored the Peacocks 20-6 in the third quarter, including 10 of Szymanski's 21 points.

- The scoring continued for the Cougars in the fourth quarter, as Thramer and Hummel combined for 5 points to jump ahead by 20 (60-40).
- The Peacocks went on a small 8-4 run to get within 20 of the Cougars, but USF was too much UIU to overcome late.

What's Next for USF –
The Cougars will return for the Stewart Center for their regular season finale with a rematch with Augustana and Wayne State, both of which fell to USF at home earlier this season.
