Huinker and Hummel advance to Academic All-American ballot

SIOUX FALLS -- Seniors Kaely Hummel and Jacey Huinker of the No. 16 University of Sioux Falls Women's Basketball Team have been named to the 2019-20 Academic All District Women's Basketball Team, selected by CoSIDA, according to an announcement today.

USF had two of the six first-team honorees from District 7, which is a first in program history. This honor recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-All-America® program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team (if applicable) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in mid-March. Therefore, Hummel and Huinker will be considered for Academic All-American. Hummel and Huinker, who recently helped USF win its first-ever NSIC South Division title, become the second and third players at USF to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors. Sam Knecht was named Academic All-District three years ago and became USF's first CoSIDA Academic All-American in women's basketball in the program's NCAA DII era on March 1, 2017.
