A transfer from Wisconsin-Green Bay, Brecht joins USF after helping the Phoenix to a 41-23 record over the past two years. Brecht, who set the career scoring record of 1,662 points while at Sioux Falls (SD) Lincoln High School, averaged 3.9 points and 1.3 rebounds per game in two seasons with UW-Green Bay.
"It is awesome to bring home an elite player like Anna (Brecht)," said Traphagen of Brecht, a junior who can play immediately. "She will fill a big scoring void with the graduation of seven seniors. Anna has the versatility to play inside, outside or attack the rim. I think she has a great opportunity to do big things at USF and be an outstanding player in the NSIC," he said.
At UW-Green Bay, Brecht scored 161 career points with 60 career rebounds. She hit 51-of-139 field goals for 36.9 percent while knocking in 34.17 percent from three-point range on 27-of-79 shooting. She also hit 32-of-44 free throws for 72.7 percent. Brecht totaled five double digit scoring games with three as a sophomore. She had a career high of 15 points against Oakland on Jan. 9, 2020 after hitting 4-of-7 field goals and 2-of-4 from three with 5-of-5 from the foul line.
A four-year starter at Lincoln High School, she was a first team SD All-State performer in 2015-16 and 2016-17 when she was named to the Argus Leader's First Five. Brecht was the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association AA Player of the Year in 2016-17.
Twice named to the All-City Team and a three-time all-conference player, she was the USA Today National Player of the Week in 2015-16 and also made the 2015-16 SD All-Tournament Team.
Brecht set the single season scoring record at Lincoln where she is the career leader in points and rebounds. Part of seven individual or team records, she averaged 23.9 points and 6.0 rebounds per game as a senior.
Brecht joins a USF Women's Basketball Program which recorded its first ever NSIC South Division title in a 26-6 season during 2019-20. The Cougars, which were ranked as high as No. 7 by the WBCA, earned the No. 3 seed in the NCAA DII Central Region.
