USF Soccer caps off their 2021 campaign with a 2-2 draw vs SMSU on Friday night

SIOUX FALLS – In the 18th and final match of the season, the Sioux Falls Soccer Team capped off the season with a 2-2 draw to Southwest Minnesota State on Friday night at the USF Soccer Field.

It was right after the 25th minute of the match when SMSU's Selena Prolic (assisted by Hayleigh Young) put one into the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead. The Cougars answered in the 39th minute of the match when Ivory Donald connected on a pass to Julia Kreutner for the equalizer and what happened to be her first career goal for the Cougars! The match was tied up 1-1 at the half.

The Cougars began the second half in quick fashion as Kyla Gushard scored in the 48th minute of the match to put USF up 2-1. It was in the 53rd minute of the match that SMSU answered when Jessica Jugovich scored to put the match back to a 2-2 score. The match ended after double overtime as a 2-2 draw, which concluded the Cougars season finishing with four draws on the season.

The Cougars had nine shots on the day led by Kelsey Oswald (3), followed by Kyla Gushard (2), and one shot a piece for Aundria Vargas, Kassidy Graber, Ivory Donald, and Julia Kreutner. On the defensive side of the ball, Caroline Titze and Alexis Wemhoff who split playing each half, faced 6 shots on the day and ending with 4 saves.

The Cougars finished their season with a record of  3-11-4, 3-8-4. A huge thank you to all of the seniors Taylor Kelley, Olivia Valdez, Alexis Wemhoff, Kennedi Keller, Kyla Gushard, and Catie Caruso for their dedication, effort, and for being such great representatives as student athletes at USF.
