SIOUX FALLS -- The University of Sioux Falls Tennis Team (3-2,3-1 NSIC) defeated the MSU Mavericks (1-4, 1-4 NSIC) 7-0 on Saturday, Feb. 27 at the Huether Family Match Pointe and extended their win streak to three in a row in league play.

USF started the match strong, sweeping the doubles and earning the point. In the first doubles matchup, No. 1 Megan Quandt and Talia Janos defeated Tyanna Washa and Lauren Goth of MSU, 6-2 as they stand 4-1 on the season. At  No. 2 doubles, Joelle Thorfinnson and Rachel Klatt upended Dee Dokken and Kjerstin Hall of MSU, 6-0. Finally, in the third doubles match up, Lexi Miller and Peyton Forney defeated Abigail Clayton and Sarah Johansen of MSU, 6-3. 

"We had a standout effort again from our team," said USF Head Tennis Coach Kevin Grebin. "The effort was outstanding and they played smart. I'm really proud of them."

After a solid doubles lineup, the Cougars continued to dominate in the singles competition, where every Cougar won their matchup. In the No. 1 singles matchup, Megan Quandt defeated Tyanna Washa, 6-1 and 6-1. Freshman Talia Janos defeated Dee Dokken, 6-1 and 6-0 at No. 2 singles as she won her second straight match. At No. 3 Lexi Miller won her third straight decision as she defeated Kjerstin Hall, 6-0 and 6-1. At No. 4, senior, Joelle Thorfinnson moved to 4-1 on the season as she defeated Lauren Goth, 6-1 and 6-0. At No. 5 Rachel Klatt defeated Abigail Clayton 6-4 and 6-1 to earn her first singles win of the season. Then at No. 6, senior Victoria Ambrosio-Cueto defeated Sarah Johansen, 6-1 and 6-1 in the sixth singles match. 
 

The Cougars will host SMSU tomorrow, Sunday, Feb.28, at 9 am at the Huether Family Match Pointe in Sioux Falls.
