Kevin Grebin was pleased with his team's opening match performance in a 7-0 setback to Division I South Dakota (1-1) at the Huether Family Match Pointe on Friday morning (Feb. 5).
"I felt really good about the way our team battled and fought through each point," said Grebin, whose squad faces another DI opponent in Creighton (2-0) on Saturday afternoon at Hanscom Tennis Courts in Omaha, Neb. "We showed great effort and resiliency throughout the match. After being away from competition for such a long time and only playing against each other, this was a great start to this season. We are excited about tomorrow and moving forward," said Grebin.
While USF fell, 7-0, several team members secured games during the match. At No. 1, senior
Megan Quandt fell, 6-1, 6-0 while freshman
Talia Janos won three games but fell, 6-1, 6-2. At No. 3 senior
Lexi Miller had a 6-1, 6-0 loss and freshman
Danielle Thorfinnson lost 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 in her first match at USF. No. 5, senior Joelle Thorfinson battled but lost 6-2, 6-2 while senior
Rachel Klatt dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision at No. 6.
At No. 1 doubles, the team of Quandt and Janos played to a 6-3 decision as they battle USD's No. 1 all match. The Thorfinnson sisters lost, 6-1, at No. 2 but played strong as did USF's No. 3 of Miller and senior Victoria Ambrosio/Cueto.
