WARRENSBURG, MO – Senior
Sydney Hubbard placed 11
th and helped lead the University of Sioux Falls Women's Golf Team to a fourth place finish at the Midwest Intercollegiate Invitational which wrapped up on a rainy and windy Tuesday (March 23) at the Mules National Golf Club.
The Cougars shot a combined 67-over par 635 (318-317) to finish fourth. Central Missouri, which was led by medalist Elizabeth Leath with a five-over par 147 (74-73), was 41-over par with a 609 (306-303) to win their own tournament. Lindenwood was 60-over par at 628 (309-319) and was tied for second with Central Missouri (B) which had a 60-over par 628 (317-311). USF's second round of 317 was the third best round of the day (Central Missouri, 303; Central Missouri B, 317).
"The Women's Team really came together as a team and found a way to battle through tough conditions," said USF Head Coach
Tavia Rutherford, whose squad will compete at the Holiday Inn Express/MWSU Spring Invitational Regional Preview at St. Joseph (Mo.) Country Club on March 29-30. "It was a long round with the wind, rain and lightning delay but I'm proud of the way they finished. There were a lot of positive to pull from this week and we will look to carry this momentum into next week," she said.
Hubbard, who finished with a 15-over par 157 (79-78), moved up four spots into a tie for 11th as she had consecutive sub-80 rounds with a 78 (39-39) following up her 79 on day one. Hubbard, who was tied for fifth overall with four total birdies, registered 15 pars during her two rounds. She had birdies today on holes 6, 7 and 10. In addition, Hubbard, who recorded her ninth career top-20 finish and sixth in the top-15, was 12
th in par five scoring at two-over.
Senior Lexi Hansen also recorded a top-20 finish which was the 26
th of her career. She finished at 19-over par 161 (76-85). The reigning NSIC Golfer of the Week, she finished with two birdies and 18 pars during her two rounds. Today, she had eight pars in shooting 85 (44-41). She finished 13
th overall in par 5 scoring.
Sophomore
Maggie Veenendall registered her fifth career top-20 finish as she carded a 20-over par 162 (79-83). In the round of 83 (44-41) today, she had seven pars and a birdie on hole three. Overall she was tied for eighth with three birdies during the two rounds and totaled 15 pars.
Both seniors
Lexi Jonas and
Kyleigh Moran registered top-25 finishes as they were tied for 24
th. Jonas was 22-over par 164 (84-80) as she improved her second day score by four strokes. Jonas, who had nine pars on the day, finished with 16 pars in the two rounds.
Senior
Kyleigh Moran had a career-best round of 76 today to improve her score by 12 shots and moved up 47 spots on the leader board. She carded a 22-over par 164 (88-76) in the two-round invite. She finished with 18 pars in the tournament and 13 of them were in the second round. In shooting that 76, which was two shots better than her previous best of 78, she opened with a one-over 36 on the front nine and was four-over with a 40 on the second nine holes.
As an individual sophomore
Annie Balduzzi was 40-over par 182 (87-95), which tied her for 83
rd on the leader board. On Tuesday, she had a birdie on hole nine and three pars.
