EDMOND, OKLA.— Led by top-12 placings by seniors
Lexi Hanson and
Sydney Hubbard, the University of Sioux Falls Women's Golf Team is ninth with a score of 321 after the first round at the Diffee Ford-Lincoln Invite which opened Monday (March 8) at the Kickingbird Golf Course.
Central Oklahoma leads the tournament with a 23 over par total of 303 with Rogers State, second at 26-over par and 306 and SW Oklahoma State, third at 27-over par and 307. USF, which is 41-over par with a 321, is just one shot out of seventh place (Central Oklahoma and Oklahoma City, tied for 7
th, 320, 40-over par). The Cougars are just three shots from sixth place Northwest Missouri State at 38-over par and 318.
For a second straight week, Hanson, who ranks second among all players with 13 pars in 18 holes, led the way for USF. She opened the invite by carding a four-over par 74 and is tied for third overall with three other players (Emilie Jackson, Southern Nazarene, Susana Olivares, Central Oklahoma; and Bailey Blake of Southern Nazarene).
Hanson, who has been named the NSIC Preseason Golfer of the Year, is just one shot out of the lead which is led by Megan Brown of SW Oklahoma State and Jessica Green of Rogers State with a 73. On the day, Hanson was three-over in par-four rounds, even in par-five holes and plus-one in par-three scoring.
Hubbard, who is tied for 12
th overall with a six-over par, 76 after the first round, had 11 pars, which is the fourth-best total among all players. She was one over on par-three scoring, and five-over in par-four scoring.
Sophomore
Maggie Veenendall, who is playing as an individual, was tied for 21
st after carding an eight-over par round of 78.
Also for USF, senior
Lexi Jonas is tied for 55
th with a first round total of 15-over par, 85. After Jonas, senior
Kyleigh Moran is 61
st with a 16-over par round of 86 while junior
Marisa Weeks is tied for 68
th with an 18-over par round 88 on the first day.
