Veenendall and Hanson lead USF Women's Golf to 7th place finish at the Central Region Preview in Springfield, Mo.

SPRINGFIELD, MO. – Led by a pair of top-20 performances from Maggie Veenendall (t-7th) and Lexi Hanson (T-20th), the University of Sioux Falls Women's Golf Team finished seventh in the team standings at Central Region Preview, which concluded on Tuesday (April 13) at the Twin Oaks Country Club.  

On the par 72, 6,009 Twin Oaks Country Club course, USF, which was recently ranked 11th for the second straight week in the NCAA DII Central Region rankings, shot a team total of 52-over par 628 (314-314), which was four shots out of sixth place - Central Missouri at 48-over par 624 (317-307). Arkansas Tech, led by the individual medalist Jacqueline Klemm at even par 144 (67-77), captured the team title at 28 over par 604 (301-303). In second place in the team standings was Henderson State at 41-over par 617 (313-304) and was followed by three teams in a tie for third at 46-over par 622, including Southwest Oklahoma State (309-313); Central Oklahoma, (307-315) and Northeastern State (312-310).

"I am extremely proud of how well the women played this week against a strong regional field," said USF Head Golf Coach Tavia Rutherford, whose team will conclude the regular season on Saturday-Sunday, April 17-18 at the Augustana Spring Invitational before the NSIC Championships on April 23-25 in Morton, Minn. "They committed to our game plan and never gave up throughout the tournament. They were consistent and were able to beat teams that are ranked ahead of us (Central Region rankings). I feel great about our finish and I look forward to the Augustana Invite as well as the NSIC Championship the following week," she said.

In her second-best career performance, sophomore Maggie Veenendall finished nine-over par 153 (79-74) and tied for seventh with her third career top-10 performance. In September, 2019, she carded a two-round total of seven-over par 151 (75-76). With a two-over par round of 74 today, Veenendall had her best round of her career (3 over par, 75, Central Region Fall Preview, 9-4-2019, 1st round).  In today's round, she had birdies on the 532-yard par five 14th hole and the 439-yard par five 16th hole along with 12 pars. As a result, Veenendall, who moved up 21 spots from day one, finished with 20 pars and four birdies during the two rounds.   

Hanson tied for 20th with a 12-over total of 156 (77-79) as she matched her two-round total on March 29-30 when she had a 156 (79-77) at the Missouri Western State Classic and finished second overall. Hanson, the NSIC scoring round leader, has shot 79 or lower in 11-of-12 rounds this season. In carding a 79, she had nine pars and a birdie on the 439-yard par five 16th hole.  She finished the tournament with 20 pars and two birdies.   

Senior Sydney Hubbard was tied for 28th at a 14-over par, 158 (78-80), which was her best two-round effort this year. She had 15-over par 159 at the Natural State Golf Classic on March 1-2 and 15-over par 157 (79-78) at the Midwest Intercollegiate Invitational. In finishing today with an 80 she had 10 pars and a birdie on the 532-yard par five hole 14. In total she had a team-high 21 pars and carded two birdies. 

Senior Kyleigh Moran finished a solid two-round total at 17-over par 161 (80-81), which is her best two-round total of the season and just off her career-best of 16-over par 160 (82-78) at the Warrior Vegas Invite on March 9-10, 2020. Her previous best this season was 22-over par 164 (88-76) at the Midwest Intercollegiate Invitational. Today, in shooting an 81, she had a birdies on the par five 499-yard 10th hole and added seven pars. As a result, she had two birdies and 17 pars and finished tied for 41st overall at the tourney.

Also for USF, senior Lexi Jonas was tied for 69th with a 30-over par total of 174 (86-88), which was tied for her third best two-round total this year. Jonas, who had a birdie on the 499-yard par five 10th hole also had three pars in shooting a second day total of 88. Across the two rounds, she had the one birdie and nine pars.
