MORTON, MINN. – With
Kyleigh Moran tied for first and
Lexi Hanson in a tie for third plus all five team members in the top 19, the University of Sioux Falls Women's Golf Team has pulled within five shots of the team lead after completion of day two of the at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Women's Golf Championships at Dacotah Ridge.
After two rounds, USF is sitting at 630 (310-320) and is five shots from leader Augustana at 625 (296-329). After the first day, USF trailed by 14 shots but sliced nine shots off the lead with the final round set for Sunday with a 12 pm shotgun start. The top five golfers will be named NSIC All-Tournament, while the team champion will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Regional.
After two rounds, USF has two golfers in the top five and all five in the top-19 individually.
Kyleigh Moran
Moran, who is tied with Amy Burnham of Concordia St. Paul (78-75) at nine-over par 153, has rounds of 76 and 77, which are the two best rounds of her career. In the opening round, Moran, a senior from Vermillion, S.D., carded a four-over par 76 (38-38), which placed her in a tie for fifth overall. In her round which was balanced throughout the day, she had 11 pars and secured birdies on holes 11 and 15. In round two, she was five-over par with a 77 (41-36). She had birdies on holes three, seven and 14 and added nine pars. Through two rounds, she has 20 pars and five birdies.
Reigning NSIC Golfer of the Week
Lexi Hanson, who leads the league in scoring average, is tied for third overall at 11-over par 155 (75-80) with Natalie Young of Augustana. Hanson opened at three-over par 75 (39-36) and ranks fourth among individuals. Hanson, a two-time All-Region and All-NSIC performer from Chanhassen, Minn., has eight pars and birdies on holes three, four, eight and 14. Then, today, she has 11 pars and has 19 for the tournament along with her three birdies.
Both junior
Marisa Weeks of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and sophomore
Maggie Veenendall of New Richmond, Wisc., are tied for 15
th overall at 13-over par, 163. Weeks (78-85), had an 85 (39-46) as she carded 10 pars. She opened the tournament with a six-over par round of 78 (36-42). She now has 19 pars and two birdies.
Veenendall, who earlier this spring was an NSIC Golfer of the Week, is also at 163 (81-82). Today, she had an 82 (40-42) as she had 10 pars and moved up three spots on the leader board. In her opening round of 81 and nine over par, she had 12 pars as she has a team-high 22 through two rounds.
Senior
Sydney Hubbard is tied for 19
th overall with a 20-over par 164 (83-81). Hubbard of Onalaska, Wisc., moved up six positions on the leader board during round two. In her 81 (41-40) on Saturday, Hubbard had a birdie on hole seven and pars on eight holes. She has 16 pars through two rounds and the one birdie.
