USF will have something to prove at the tees as they will be the only Division II team playing in a tournament of Division I programs. "It will be a great test and a good chance to see how we stack up against some of the best programs in the nation" said Head Coach
Wade Merry "We're looking forward to playing at a fantastic course and building on some great performances from last week. I've reminded the girls that we are playing against the course, not against the other teams, so we need to stay focused on the course and our game plan."
Unlike the Central Region Fall Preview that the Cougars took part in last week, the Jackrabbit Intercollegiate will be a 54-hole tournament with 36 holes being played on day 1. Since the 2018-2019 season USF has only played in one tournament with more than 36 holes, that tournament was the 3-day NSIC Championship in 2021 where they shot 960 (310-20-330) and placed 2
nd.
At last week's tournament the Cougars saw impressive performances by both newcomers and veterans of the program. Freshman
Paige Hillman shined in her debut round as she led the team after the first day with a 5-over par score of 77 (40-37) which placed her in the top-20.
Maggie Veenendall sat tied for 36
th after day 1 before exploding to a career-best one-over par 73 (36-37) on day two of the meet which landed her in the top-5 of the round and pushed her into a tie for 11
th in the tournament.
Marisa Weeks tied for 60
th with 183 (83-80) after sinking eleven pars, 3 birdies, and USF's lone eagle of the outing.
Maddi Hanson placed t-82
nd with 171 (84-87) and
Ashley Tackett scored 179 (88-91) for 93
rd place in her debut.
The 2021 Jackrabbit Intercollegiate will feature Veenendall, Hillman, Weeks, Hanson, and the debut of freshman
Savannah Vincent.
