USF Soccer falls to Rogers State, 3-0, in nonconference play

SIOUX FALLS – The University of Sioux Falls Soccer team dropped a 3-0 nonconference decision to Rogers State on a neutral field in Omaha, Neb., on Sunday (Sept. 12).

The Hillcats struck early in the 9th minute on the foot of Kori Watters which was the only goal put into the back of the net for either side in the first half of the match.

Rogers State would strike against at the 80' mark when Desiree Morgas scored for a 2-0 lead. A little over a minute later, RSU's Sarah Ovalle also put in a goal to put the Hillcats up, 3-0. The Cougars, although unsuccessful in their shot attempts, had four corner kicks on the day and six shots with two on goal. USF's goalies Holli Knudsen and Caroline Titze combined for 10 saves. USF's offense was led by Aundria Vargas and Grace Held, who each had two shots, while Julia Kreutner and Hannah Welch each put up a shot on goal.

USF Head Coach Brittany Domino said the the loss to Rogers State was tough as the team battled through the match but a couple of mistakes late hurt.

"Today was a tough loss for us," said Domino. "We were in the game for 80 minutes and then had some mental errors. We are still working towards being mentally-checked in for 90 minutes and finding our identity in the attack. We are looking forward to another week of training to come together as a group and get the conference season underway," she said

With the setback, the Cougars fell to 0-3 on the season and will look to bounce back Friday Sept. 17th in their first conference game of the season, on the road against Winona State University at 5 p.m.
