Maplewood, MN - The USF Women's Golf Team heads to Maplewood, Minnesota for their third meet of the season. The 2021 Golden Bear Classic will feature multiple other NSIC teams and serve as a great in-conference test for the Cougars.
USF opened the season with a 14th place finish at the Central Region Fall Preview where they shot 654 (323-331). The meet was highlighted by
Maggie Veenendall placing 11th.
The second meet of the season for the Cougars was the 2021 Jackrabbit Intercollegiate in which USF was the only non-DI participant. USF finished 9th with a 103-over par 967 which topped St. Thomas by 20 strokes.
The USF Women's squad for this meet will consist of Veenendall,
Paige Hillman,
Ashley Tackett,
Savannah Vincent, and
Maddi Hanson.
Veenendall has shot a career best tying 73 twice this season as well as two rounds of 78 and a 79. She has finished T10th and 11th as the Coo enter the mid-way point of the season. The junior's eight-over par 152 at the Central Region Fall Preview this year stands as the second best round of her career. USF's team leader has sunk nine birdies and 53 par shots overall.
Hillman started her collegiate career strong with a score of 77 (five-over) in her first round at the Central Region Fall Preview. While her subsequent score dropped to 97 she rebounded at the Jackrabbit Intercollegiate with scores of 83, 77 and, 79. Overall, the freshman has recorded seven birdies and 41 pars which have helped her place 38th and T87th.
Tackett played her first collegiate competition at the Central Region Fall Preview where she placed T93rd. She recorded her first birdie as well as 12 pars en route to a 35-over par score of 179.
Vincent debuted at the Jackrabbit Invitational with a 59th place finish. With her 20 pars she finished 41-over par at 257 as she carded rounds of 86, 88, and 83.
Maddi Hanson has begun her year by placing 63rd and T82nd with scores of 87-90-83 and 84-87. In total she has carded 26 pars.
USF looks forward to the chance to test themselves against in conference competition. Head coach
Wade Merry has been impressed with the team overall this year saying, "Right now we're a good team and our efforts at the last meet showed us we can be great.".
