The NSU Classic comes to a close with USF Men’s Golf placing 16th behind Gavin Metz’ T21st place finish

Muskogee, OK – The NSU Classic came to a close today (Tuesday, Sept. 21) with the USF Men's Golf team placing 16th after posting a three-round 44-over par score of 896 (292-297-307). Gavin Metz led the Cougars within an overall three-over par 216 that placed him T21st overall.
 
USF held an eight stroke lead over Southern Nazerene University and landed just five strokes out of 15th. Arkansas Tech took home the team victory shooting 15-under at 837 with Central Missouri (-10, 842) and Harding University (-1, 851) placing 2nd and 3rd respectively. Harding's Leo Maciejek and Arkansas Tech's Santiago De La Fuente tied for first shooting eight-under at 205. Maciejek took the award on the first playoff hole.

Metz closed the tournament with a four-over 75 (38-37) consisting of 14 pars. His day one scores of 69 (35-34) and 72 (35-37) led to a total three-over par 216 and T21st place finish at the NSU Classic. In total Metz sank eight birdies along with 35 pars.
 
Jack Evans finished T27th by posting a five-over 218 through the competition. Evans final round included birdies on the 184-yard hole 4, the 532-yard hole 5 and the 508-yard hole 15 plus nine pars leading to a five-over score of 76 (37-39). In total the senior carded 10 birdies and 32 pars resulting in scores of 69 (34-35), 73 (40-33), and 76 on the par 71 course.
 
Anthony Cylkowski recorded 10 pars on the final day en route to a nine-over score of 80 (39-41). Overall, the freshman recorded 27 par makes, four birdies, and USF's only two eagles of the tournament. His round scores of 77 (36-41), 74 (36-38) and 80 combined for an 18-over 231 to place him T86th in his second collegiate tournament.
 
Cole Harste capped off his first collegiate tournament with a five-over par 76 (39-37) that included birdies on the 360-yard hole 1, the 415-yard hole 7, the 213-yard hole 12, and the 411-yard hole 18. Six pars in the final round brought his total to 28 while his outing also included five birdies. In addition to his final round 76, his scores of 77 (40-37) and 78 (42-36) landed him with an 18-over 231 that placed T86th.
 
Jake Oetzmann followed his day 1 scores of 78 (42-36) and 79 (41-38) with a 10-over 81 (40-41) in the final round to give him a 25-over 238 and 98th place overall. Oetzmann added nine pars and a birdie on the 532-yard hole 5 to give him four birdies and 26 pars during the tournament.
 
"We played pretty well and had some good performances on both days." said Head Coach Wade Merry, "It was a good course for us, the guys liked it and it showed in their scores. This tournament gave us back our confidence and some momentum heading into our next competition. We're excited to keep it rolling into Lake City next week."
