USF Football Hits The Road For Final Regular Season Match-up Against Upper Iowa

SIOUX FALLS – The University of Sioux Falls Cougars hit the road to take up Upper Iowa in their final regular season match-up. Kick-off is set for 12:00p.m at Harms – Eischeid Stadium in Fayette, Iowa.

The History

The (7-3) Cougars and (1-9) Peacocks enter this weekend with an 8-1 series lead in favor of USF. Upper Iowa's only win against the Cougars came in 2013 when they came away with a 30-28 victory at home.

The Cougars have outscored the peacocks 389-164 with their biggest victory being a 69-20 win in 2015 and has averaged 43.22 points a game against Upper Iowa.

During their most recent match-up, USF topped UIU 42-21 to secure a South Division Title in 2021. Landon Freeman broke out for 152 rushing yards and a touchdown followed by Thuro Reisdorfer with 78 yards and a touchdown. Adam Mullen went 15-for-23 through the air with two touchdowns while throwing for 121 yards.

The Peacocks

Upper Iowa is coming off a 7-45 loss against Winona State and currently sits 13th in the NSIC overall standings and 7th in the South Division.

The Peacocks are averaging 14.4 points a game while giving up 37.4. UIU appears to look towards a passing game with 1,732 passing yards on the season compared to 606 on the ground. The rushing game is led by junior, Desean Phillips, with 404 yards on the year and one touchdown and sophomore running back, Aboubacar Barry, with 285 yards and three touchdowns. Freshman, Darryl Overstreet Jr., has been the QB1 for the Peacocks recently with 753 yards and seven touchdowns throughout five games.

Trevor Thompson leads Upper Iowa with 58 tackles on the year followed by Collin Jones and Tyler Owen. Baxter Bohr leads the team with 4.5 sacks for a loss of 30 yards on the year.

The Cougars

USF is coming off a 24-31 loss against (RV) Wayne State last weekend and currently sit 6th in the NSIC overall standings and 4th in the South Division.

Sioux Falls has put up 311 points on the season averaging 31.10 points a game. Mullen has thrown for 11 touchdowns this season while the Cougars have combined for 28 rushing touchdowns. USF continues to have a pretty even spread with 2,079 rushing yards and 2,053 passing on the season. Reisdorfer continues to lead the Coo with 1,237 yards and 17 touchdowns on the season followed by Freeman with eight touchdowns and 629 yards. Ethan Wittenburg has pulled in 39 passes for 692 yards along with four touchdowns followed by Carter Slykhuis with 405 yards on 33 passes and two touchdowns.

Cam Alfaro continues to lead the Cougars with 43 tackles on the season followed by Cody Jantzen and Noah Schmitt each with 41. Zach Durfee leads the team in sacks with 11.5 for a loss of 43 yards.
