MARSHALL – The University of Sioux Falls men's basketball team fell in their first NSIC match-up of the 2022-23 season, 65-73, to Southwest Minnesota State tonight. USF moves to 3-2 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.
WHAT HAPPENED
- USF started strong, jumping out to a 14-2 lead over the Mustangs with a halftime lead of 32-29.
- The Cougars saw their largest lead of the game in the first half when they led by 12 over SMSU.
- Sioux Falls saw one lead change on the night that came in the second half when the Mustangs outscored USF 44-33.
SIOUX FALLS LEADERS
- Matt Cartwright dropped his fourth 20-point game scoring 20 points on the night. He went 8-16 from the field, 3-11 on three pointers and 1-1 from the free throw line.
- Noah Puetz was the second leading scorer for the Coo with 10 points on the night followed by Chase Grinde with nine.
- Jack Thompson pulled down eight rebounds on the night before picking up his fifth foul in tonight's match-up.
TEAM STATISTICS
- USF shot 21-56 from the field, 6-27 from downtown and 17-21 from the line against SMSU while picking up 20 points off the bench.
- Sioux Falls pulled down 34 rebounds on the night with 24 on the defensive side of the ball.
UP NEXT
Sioux Falls (3-2) hits the road to compete in the Thanksgiving Classic in Denver, Colorado where they will take on Metropolitan State and Regis University.
