DENVER – The University of Sioux Falls men's basketball team advanced to 4-2 today with a 76-71 victory over Metropolitan State University – Denver at the Thanksgiving Classic in Denver, Colorado.
WHAT HAPPENED
· MSUD scored first against the Coo, but USF ran away with an early 34-29 lead at the half.
· Chase Grinde gave Sioux Falls their biggest lead of the game in the second half when the Cougars went up 60-43 with 8:19 left to play.
· Sioux Falls only saw three lead changes in today's game with their largest lead being by 17 points.
· The Cougars picked up 16 points off of 18 MSUD turnovers and 40 points in the paint.
SIOUX FALLS LEADERS
· Matt Cartwright and Jack Thompson led the Coo with 21 points each combining for 42 of the Cougars 76 points.
· Cartwright picked up his fifth 20-point game against the Roadrunners this season while Thompson picks up his first on the year and ninth of his career.
· Zane Alm pulled down a career high 11 rebounds on the day along with seven points.
TEAM STATISTICS
· The Cougars improved their scoring efforts throughout the game while shooting 28-69 from the field, 7-25 from three point territory and 13-20 from the free throw line.
· Sioux Falls pulled down 40 rebounds on the day against Metropolitan State
UP NEXT
Sioux Falls (4-2) will take on Regis University (3-2) tomorrow for the first time since 2011. Regis came away with a 77-69 victory over the Cougars just 11 years ago, but USF will look to even out the series tomorrow at 7 p.m. CT.
