AUBURNDALE, FLA. -- The University of Sioux Falls Baseball Team (6-6) dropped a 6-0 decision to Malone (8-7) on Friday afternoon (March 11) as part of the Russmat Central Florida Invitational at the Lake Myrtle Complex.
The game was part of a doubleheader on March 10 but game two was delayed because of rain. Tyler Jackson earned the win for Malone after taking over for Mitch Maurer, who pitched the opening 3 2/3 innings (two hits, four strikeouts). Jackson allowed just one hit in 3 1/3 innings.
Cole Schmuacher (0-1) took the loss for USF after working four innings and allowing seven hits and four runs. However, Schumacher had five strikeouts and did not walk a batter.
Zachary Shastay finished for USF as he allowed four hits and two runs in three innings of work.Â
The teams were scoreless through three innings as both Schumacher and Maurer shut down the offenses. Then Malone scored four times in the fourth inning and then added one in the fifth inning and one in the seventh inning. USF had three hits, including a double by
Noah Christenson and singles by
Noah Buss and
Brady Klehr.Â
USF will continue its play at the Russmat Central Florida Invitational with a doubleheader against Wayne State (Mich.) at 2:30 pm on Saturday, March 12.Â
