ORLANDO, FLA. -- The University of Sioux Falls Tennis Team finished its spring break trip with a 3-2 record after falling to Millersville, 5-2, on Friday (March 11).
Today, the Cougars had wins from
Megan Quandt at No. 1 singles and
Katelyn Nesheim at No. 6 singles. USF also had a win at No. 1 doubles but lost the doubles point.
"I just am really happy with the way our tennis team continues to battle and play with every inch of energy they have on every point," said USF Head Coach
Kevin Grebin, whose team will now return for a nonconference matchup on Friday, March 25 at 7 pm on the Huether Family Match Pointe in Sioux Falls. Then, USF plays home NSIC matches with Minnesota Crookston (April 1), Bemidji State (April 2), Winona State (April 8) and Upper Iowa (April 9) before closing at Augustana on April 12. "This was a good experience for the team as everyone on the team had a chance to compete in Florida. All of it helps as we continue to progress as a team. It really is a resilient group who step up for each other continually," he said.
Against Millersville, Quandt took a 6-5, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6) win over Maria Ojeda at No. 1 singles. Quandt now sits 4-2 on the season in singles. She and fellow senior
Joelle Thorfinnson also earned a win at No. 1 doubles. He helped Quandt improve to 7-1 overall in all doubles while J. Thorfinnson is 6-3 in doubles. This was the first time the pair competed at No. 1 doubles together.
USF also had another close win as freshman
Katelyn Nesheim earned a 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5) decision over Hui Jen Soo of Millersville. Nesheim improved to a team-best 8-2 with a 6-1 record at No. 6 singles. She has won four of her past five matches.

Joelle Thorfinnson (4-6) fell at No. 2 singles to Noelle Htwar, 6-0, 6-1. At No. 3, sophomore
Danielle Thorfinnson (4-6) dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decisioin to Julie Wallace while sophomore
Peyton Forney (2-2) fell to Kelsey Heckert at No. 4 and freshman
Emily Thinnsen (5-5) lost to Chloe Abramowitz.
At No. 2 doubles, sophomore
Emily Applegate and freshman
Annika Randt lost a hard-fought, 6-4, decsion to Marie Ojeja/Chloe Abramowitz. At No. 3,
Brianna Holm and
Ella Schmidt, both freshmen, fell to Kelsey Heckert/Aneesa Malik, 6-2.
