Pittsburg, KS – The University of Sioux Falls softball team saw the nine game win streak come to an end with a 5-1 loss to Pittsburg State on Saturday. The Cougars dropped game two on the day to 8
th ranked Central Oklahoma by a score of 8-0.
Game 1: USF 1, Pitt State 5
The Cougars win streak was snapped by a score of 5-1 against Pitt State with a solid pitching performance by Pitt State's Hannah Harrison. She pitched a complete game, striking out 11 USF batters, surrendering five hits and giving up one earned run for the victory.
The Gorillas got on the board early in the bottom of the 1
st inning with a sacrifice fly by Smanski and scoring Lambert. Pitt State added to the lead with a home run in the bottom of the 3
rd inning by Lambert to put the score at 2-0. As we entered the fourth inning, Davis entered the game as a pinch hitter for the Gorillas and she doubled the score with a two-run home run to put the score at 4-0. The Gorillas added to the lead with a single in the 5
th inning, scoring Hayes to bring across the fifth run of the day.
The Cougars answered back in the top of the 6
th inning with a home run to make it a 5-1 score off the bat of senior
Kylie Madrid, who continues her hot streak at the plate. The Cougars had five hits on the day lead by
Kylie Madrid with two and
Reese Holzhueter,
Kennedy Thomas, and
Rylie Jones with one a piece.
From the circle,
Hanna Cress took the loss and
Bailee Lampman pitched the final two innings, giving up 10 hits, five runs (four earned), and striking out six hitters on the day.
Game 2: USF 0, Central Oklahoma 8
USF fell to nationally ranked Central Oklahoma by a score of 8-0, with the game ending after 5 innings on Saturday afternoon. UCO's starting pitcher Isie Cox pitched a 5 inning complete game shutout and only surrendered one hit on the day.
The Central Oklahoma team came out early scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning off of a solo shot home run and a three-run home run to take an early 4-0 lead. In the bottom of the 2
nd inning, UCO extended their lead to 5-0 on another solo home run. As UCO continued to pitch well from the circle, they extended their lead again in the 4
th inning with a bases loaded walk, followed by a line drive two-RBI single by Harper to make it 8-0.
The Cougars ended the day with one hit by red hot hitting senior
Kylie Madrid.
Kait Van Der Zwaag took the loss on the day, surrendering seven hits, walking two batters, and giving up four earned runs in the game.
