Winterhaven, FL – The University of Sioux Falls softball team brings their win streak to seven games with an 8-0 victory over Shippensburg University on Sunday afternoon. They were slated to play UMSL today, that game was postponed, unsure of a make-up date at this point with having four games already scheduled for USF over the final two days of the tournament.

The Cougars continue their dominance both from the plate and in the circle as they bring eight runs across the board and giving up zero runs for the 2
nd game in a row. In the last 22 innings, the Cougars have only surrendered one run across four contests. An incredible mark as the bats stay hot, bringing the win streak to seven games.
For the duration of the tournament so far in Florida, the Cougars get off to an early start bringing in runs. This time, senior
Kylie Madrid got the party started today with a 1
st inning home run to give the Cougars an early 1-0 lead for the game. Kylie has been read since arriving in Florida as she's hitting .556 with 10 hits in 18 at-bats with eight runs, a double, triple, and two home runs, nine RBI, and an impressive 1.056 slugging percentage. Madrid, who has a .600 OBP in that time frame has seen her best stretch at the plate during her USF career, now hitting .360 on the season and has registered four multi-hit games in the past seven contests.
In the 3
rd inning, freshman
Reese Holzhueter continued her hot streak at the plate with a single to right field, scoring
Lexie Swift and
Taryn Wagner to extend the lead to 3-0.
Kennedy Thomas joined the fun in the 4
th with a home run to center field for the solo shot and a 4-0 lead for USF.
Two-way standout Kaitlyn Van Der Zwaag decided to put the game out of reach in the 6
th with a grand slam, scoring seniors
Kylie Madrid and
Kylan Straight, along with
Lexie Swift for the 8-0 lead and final score of the game, finishing in six innings.
The Cougars had 8 hits on the day with three home runs and continue to be exceptional from the circle only surrendering one run in the past 22 innings of play. Kaitlyn Van Der Zwaag picked up her fourth win on the season pitching 5 innings, giving up five hits, zero earned runs, and punching out one Shippensburg hitter on the day.
Bailee Lampman pitched the final inning, striking out one.
From the circle, USF has lowered their team ERA to 3.04, striking out 73 hitters in 101 innings pitched and catapulting the Cougars to a seven game win streak. At the plate, the Cougars are sitting at an even .300 batting average as a team with 29 extra base hits, 12 of which are home runs.
The Cougars stay unbeaten at The Spring Games tournament with five straight victories as they extend their win streak to seven games overall.
