USF Tennis wins 5-of-6 at singles to earn 6-1 decision over Seton Hill

Cougars wrap up Florida spring break trip on Thursday against Millersville

ORLANDO, FLA. – With a 6-1 verdict over Seton Hill, the University of Sioux Falls Tennis Team has recorded its third victory in four matches during the spring break trip. As a result, the Cougars have improved to 7-4 on the season.

USF, which will face Millersville (Pa.) at 11:30 am on Thursday to conclude the Florida play, recorded wins in five of the six singles matches and captured 2-of-3 contests in doubles to earn the win over Seton Hill (4-6).

"I was pleased with the team's effort today and throughout this season," said USF Head Coach Kevin Grebin. "They played smart tennis today with a lot of our team competing. It was an example of working hard and staying focused on points while converting big points," he said.

In doubles, USF took a 7-5 decision at No. 1 as Megan Quandt and Katelyn Nesheim teamed up for the first time. At No. 2, Peyton Forney and Emily Applegate dropped a 6-2 decision to Kasey Storkey and Kaitlyn Walch. USF earned the doubles point with a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles with Ella Schmidt and Annika Randt defeating Julianna Begley and Sophia Solomon. Schmidt and Randt pair up for the first time in earning the win.

In winning five of six matches in singles, sophomore Talia Janos earned her fourth win of the year with a 6-1, 6-4 decision of Cameron Beer of Seton Hill at No. 1 singles.

Junior Danielle Thorfinnson moved up to No. 2 singles and registered a 7-5, 6-1 as she also now has four match wins on the season.

At No. 3 singles, senior Joelle Thorfinnson picked up her fourth win of the year with a straight set 6-1, 6-3 verdict of Kendall McCluskey.

USF also had a victory from Emily Thinnsen at No. 4 singles as she defeated Julianna Begley, 6-0, 6-4. With the win, Thinnsen is now 5-4 on the season. 

At No. 6 singles, freshman Briana Holm fought through a tough, back and forth first set for a 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 win. It was the second straight singles win for Holm.
