Sioux Falls, SD – The University of Sioux Falls softball team falls to #14 Augustana University in both games on Tuesday afternoon.
Game 1: USF 2, Augustana 10
The Cougars fell to Augustana by a score of 10-2 at Sherman Park on Tuesday.
Augustana struck first in the bottom of the first inning, scoring an unearned run on a double to center field, scoring Mary Pardo to take an early 1-0 lead. The Vikings brought across two more runs in the bottom of the 2
nd inning on three straight singles to make it 3-0 for Augustana after two innings.
The Vikings continued to swing the ball well as they brought across another run in the 3
rd inning and six more in the 4
th to extend the lead to 10-0. The Cougars started the top of the 5
th with a single by
Damaris Cuevas, followed by three consecutive walks by the Cougars
Emma Spizzirri,
Lexie Swift, and
Jayden Haley to bring across the first run of the game for USF.
Kylie Madrid hit a single to right field, scoring
Emma Spizzirri for the 2
nd run of the game.
The Cougars finished with four hits on the day led by senior
Kylie Madrid with two hits and
Taryn Wagner and
Damaris Cuevas each had a base hit on the day.
From the circle,
Hanna Cress took the loss, throwing four innings, surrendering 10 hits, 10 runs (seven earned), walking and striking out two Vikings hitters on the day.
Game 2: USF 0, Augustana 8
After an extensive weather delay, USF fell to Augustana by a score of 8-0 on Tuesday evening in Game 2 of the doubleheader.
Augustana continued to swing the bats well in Game 2 as they brought across four runs on three hits in the bottom of the 1
st inning. The bottom of the second inning, the Vikings had another three hits, scoring two runs and extending the lead to 5-0.
As lighting brought an extensive delay with play resuming around 8:30 p.m., the Vikings brought across two runs on three hits in the bottom of the 4
th inning, making it 8-0. The Cougars were unable to bring a run across and the game ended by a score of 8-0 after 5 innings.
The Cougars finished with four hits on the day by
Lexie Swift,
Kylan Straight,
Kylie Madrid, and
Taryn Wagner. USF was unable to string some hits together to bring across a run but will look to do so this upcoming weekend where they'll have four games over two days at the Minot Dome.

Bailee Lampman threw 1 and 2/3 innings, surrendering six hits, six runs, walking four, and striking out one Vikings hitter.
Kennedy Thomas threw the final two and 1/3 inning, surrendering four hits, two runs, walking one, and striking out two.
