Kait Van Der Zwaag selected as NSIC player of the week

BURNSVILLE, MINN. – Kait Van Der Zwaag of the University of Sioux Falls Softball Team, who helped lead the Cougars to six straight wins this week, has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Player of the Week, according to an announcement by the league office on Tuesday May 3rd.

During the six-game home stand, Van Der Zwaag hit .471 with 8 hits in 17 at bats with eight runs, four home runs, 14 RBI, a 1.235 slugging percentage, and a stolen base. Kait also took three hit by pitches and two walks during the six-game stretch. In addition to her stellar performance at the plate, Van Der Zwaag pitched her way to a 3-0 record with a 0.44 ERA in two complete games with 11 strikeouts.

Van Der Zwaag raised her season average to .283, an OBP of .438, and now has a whopping 1.095 OPS on the season. She has registered 11 home runs on the season, totaling 40 RBI, 65 total bases, and drawn 16 walks with an additional 13 HBP on the year.

Van Der Zwaag and her USF teammates are headed to Rochester, MN on Thursday for the first round of the NSIC double-elimination tournament, May 5, facing off against SMSU at 10 a.m. Follow USF Softball on social media for updates throughout the tournament.
