Richmond, VA - Per the CSCAA, four swimmers from the University of Sioux Falls Swimming team were named Individual Scholar All-Americans. Ilinde du Plessis, Sarah Knox, Domenica Solano, and Elizabeth Spaans each received the honor this year. 

The College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) named 1,206 swimmers and divers to its Scholar All-American Team for the 2021-22 season. The award recognizes student-athletes who achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and were invited to compete at their respective national championship.

USF Swimming also received the same honor as a team earlier this week. Now, four of the teams swimmers are receiving the honor on an individual level for their incredible personal efforts in the classroom and in the pool.

Spaans and du Plessis both achieved First-Team Scholar All-America honors which entails a minimum GPA of 3.5 and participation in the national championships. Knox and Solano received Second-Team All-America honors for achieving a GPA of 3.5 or higher while also achieving a "B" time standard for the national championships. Spaans has achieved this honor in all four years of her collegiate career and she will return for a fifth year during this coming 2022-23 season. du Plessis received Second-Team honors in 2021 and has now improved to the First-Team in 2022 after competing in the 200 Free and 200 Back at the NCAA Championships. Knox and Solano both received their first Scholar All-America honor and will swim for the Cougars again next year along with du Plessis.

"These ladies are some of the hardest workers on our team and we're all extremely proud of them for receiving this honor." said Head Coach Chris Hamstra, "Their commitment to excellence both in the pool and in the classroom is what makes them such great leaders on our team."
