Box Score 2 Kearney, NE - USF Volleyball earns a split after two hard fought matches on Day 1 of the Kearney Fall Classic.
The first match of the day found the Cougars playing well at the net against Midwestern State (TX) where the Cougars came away with a 3-0 sweep. In the second match of the day, the Cougars had a back and forth match, finding the Cougars coming away with the 1st set but falling in the next three to Central Washington for a 3-1 victory for the Wildcats.
USF vs Midwestern State (25-23, 25-22, 25-16)
- Attack: USF had 36 kills in the the match, led by Jordan Kuper (11), Courtney Holsteen (8), and Jordyn Hamm (7)
- Service Line:Â 13 aces, led by Elise Gillen (4), Jordyn Hamm (3), and Brynn Askew (2)
- Finishing Strong: erased a six point deficit when trailing 22-19 to get the 1st set victory, setting the tone for the rest of the match.
- Rally: the Cougars rallied for nine out of ten points in set 3, closing out the match for their first sweep of the season
USF vs Central Washington (25-22, 20-25, 16-25, 18-25)
- Attack: USF had 52 kills in the match, led by Courtney Holsteen (18), Sadie Voss (11), and Grace Hanel (7)
- Service Line: 10 aces, led by Elise Gillen (2), Jordyn Hamm (1), and Samantha Riggs (1)
- Helping Out: The Cougars finished with 50 assists, led by Elise Gillen (22), Davis Guetterman (16), and Brynn Askew (5)
- Defense: The Coo had 48 digs, led by Elise Gillen (14), Sadie Voss (10), and Davis Guetterman (7)
The USF Volleyball team is back in action on Saturday when they'll face off against #10 Nebraska-Kearney at 12 p.m. and an afternoon match at 4 p.m. squaring off against #2 ranked Washburn University.
