Kearney, NE - The University of Sioux Falls Volleyball team concluded their trip to Kearney for the Rosella Meier Fall Classic today. The Cougars fell in both matches against ranked opponents.

After splitting their games yesterday the Cougars took on Nebraska-Kearney and Washburn today. USF opened the day against Nebraska-Kearney, the preseason #10 team, where they fell 0-3 but battled within three points in the final two sets. #2 Washburn took the court next against the Cougars. The Coo bounced back with a hot start and took the first game by six but Washburn showed why they're ranked highly and won the next three sets to close out the match.

 

USF vs Nebraska-Kearney (14-25, 22-25, 22-25)

Attack: USF had 46 kills in the the match, led by Courtney Holsteen (8), Grace Hanel (9), and Chessa Devine (8)

Defense: 43 total digs including double digit stat lines from Sadie Voss (11), Brynn Askew (10) and, Gillen (10).

Helping Out: 43 total assists with the majority from Elise Gillen (22) and Davis Guetterman (15).

Fight to the Finish: seven tie scores and three lead changes in the second set, five tie scores and two lead changes in the third set, within three points during the final two sets
 

USF vs Washburn (25-19, 16-25, 20-25, 11-25)

Attack: USF had 41 kills in the match, led by Hanel (14), Voss (10) and, Holsteen (7)

Service Line: Three aces split between Voss, Gillen, and Samantha Riggs

Helping Out: The Cougars finished with 40 assists, led by Gillen (18) and Guetterman (15)

Defense: The Coo had 58 digs, led by Elise Gillen (15), Riggs (14) and, Sadie Voss (9)

Hot Start: USF posted a 78% attack percentage en route to claiming the first set, this was the highest by either team during the match
 

The USF Volleyball team is back in action on Friday, September 2nd at the Chadron State Tournament where they'll face off against Montana-State Billings at 5 p.m.
